The Halo Effect

In a former life, I was a practicing therapist and one of the concepts that was discussed during one of the many research methodology classes was the notion “halo effect.” In no way is this related to the very popular HALO video game, but a phenomenon whereby a person tends to remember the beginning and the ending of material.

How does this relate to writing?” Very simply; to capture a reader’s attention and to keep them turning your pages of your novel or story, make it memorable. Get the right into the action of the story so that they are fully engaged. The same for the ending. The climax of the story, where everything in the story has been building and make it memorable.

It is a very powerful effect and if properly utilized will keep your readers wanting more; which is a good thing when it comes to writing. We all want one more story.

Your thoughts.

Until next time.
